Ongoing Israeli military attacks have resulted in 1.8% of Gaza’s total population being killed, according to data from the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, as reported by Al Jazeera.
Since October 7 of last year, when the Gaza-based Palestinian militant group Hamas launched an attack on Israel, Israeli forces have been carrying out indiscriminate attacks on Gaza. These attacks are still ongoing. The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics reports that in this more-than-10-month conflict, 1.8% of Gaza’s total population has been killed by Israeli forces, with nearly 75% of the deceased being under the age of 30.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 39,790 Palestinians have been killed and 92,000 injured in the ongoing conflict. The United Nations reports that nearly 1.9 million people have been internally displaced within Gaza.
The United States, Egypt, and Qatar are working to mediate a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. The three countries have recently issued a joint statement calling for talks between Israel and Hamas on August 15, which could be held in Doha or Cairo.
U.S. President Joe Biden has stated that he believes a ceasefire in Gaza is still possible before the end of his term.
