A Reuters staff member has lost his life on the eastern front of Ukraine. Two more journalists were injured in the attack. On Saturday, August 24, Reuters’ security advisor in Ukraine, Ryan Evans, was killed in a missile strike in the city of Kramatorsk.
Ryan, a 38-year-old former British military officer, had been working in Ukraine since 2022. He was accompanied by six other Reuters representatives at the time of the attack. Among the two injured journalists receiving hospital treatment, one is in critical condition.
In a statement on Sunday, Reuters said, “We are urgently working with the authorities in Kramatorsk to gather detailed information about the attack. We stand with our colleagues and their families.”
Ukrainian authorities claim that Russia targeted the journalists’ residential hotel with a missile. However, Moscow has not commented on the matter. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed sorrow over the death of the media personnel in the country’s territory.
