In connection with the murder case of garment worker Rubel during the anti-discrimination student movement, the court has granted a seven-day remand for Abdus Sobhan Golap, the Awami League’s Secretary of Information and Research. Additionally, a five-day remand has been granted for Shakil Ahmed, former Chief of News at Ekattor TV, and Farzana Rupa, a former senior reporter and presenter at the same channel.
On Monday (August 26), Mintu Chandra Bonik, the investigating officer and inspector at Adabor Police Station, filed a petition seeking a 10-day remand for Shakil Ahmed and Farzana Rupa, along with their arrest. The hearing took place in the presence of the accused in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mosharraf Hossain. A separate 10-day remand application was also submitted for Golap.
Lawyers representing the accused argued for the cancellation of the remand and requested bail. After the hearing, the court ordered a seven-day remand for Golap and a five-day remand for Shakil Ahmed and Farzana Rupa.
Golap was arrested on Sunday (August 25) from West Nakhalpara in the capital. Following his arrest, he was shown as detained in the Rubel murder case under the jurisdiction of Adabor Police Station.
Earlier, on August 21, Shakil Ahmed and Farzana Rupa were detained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Subsequently, they were also shown as arrested in the Rubel murder case.
