Among the various Korean dramas centered around divorce, the new drama ‘Good Partner’ has managed to make a significant impact. Premiering on July 12 on the Korean television channel SBS, the drama initially started with a 7.8% viewership rating but has now reached 17.2%. Analysts believe that this rating could even reach 20% before the show concludes.
A Touch of Novelty and Modernity in the Story
The storyline of ‘Good Partner’ emphasizes the importance of mutual understanding when ending a marriage, especially considering the well-being of children. Unlike typical portrayals where women are shown negatively in divorce dramas, this drama presents a different perspective on women.
The main character, Cha Yoon Kyung, is a star lawyer who has been practicing for 17 years and is known for her expertise in divorce cases. This role is played by the star actress Jang Na Ra. The younger lawyer, Han Yoo Ri, is portrayed by the young actress Nam Ji Hyun. The drama effectively highlights the conflicts in the workplace and the differing values of the two characters.
Production and Broadcast
The screenplay was written by Choi Yoo Na, who was also a lawyer herself. The drama was produced by Studio & New and is being broadcast on multiple streaming platforms, including Netflix, in addition to SBS.
Unexpected Popularity
Despite initially having low expectations, ‘Good Partner’ has gained significant popularity among Korean youth and has garnered attention worldwide. A production company executive mentioned, “Television channels are increasingly focusing on new projects related to divorce to attract middle-aged viewers, and ‘Good Partner’ has proven this approach to be successful.”
