BNP’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, has emphasized the need for constitutional reforms to ensure that no one can hold the position of Prime Minister for more than two consecutive terms in Bangladesh. He expressed that this measure is crucial to prevent the concentration of power and the rise of authoritarianism in the country.
Rahman made these remarks during a consultative meeting with grassroots leaders and activists from the Comilla and Faridpur regions on Sunday, September 1. He stated, “With the fall of dictatorship, people’s hopes have increased, and the language of politics has evolved. If we fail to turn these hopes into reality, we risk being sidelined.”
Highlighting BNP’s vision for the future, Rahman said the party is committed to ending autocratic rule in Bangladesh. He mentioned that BNP aims to establish a balance of power among the legislative, judicial, and executive branches of government. To ensure the participation of intellectuals in state governance, BNP proposes the introduction of a bicameral parliamentary system.
In addition to political reforms, Rahman pledged that BNP would work to create employment opportunities for the unemployed and increase women’s participation at all levels of society. He also vowed to build a Bangladesh where equal rights are guaranteed for all, regardless of religion or ethnicity.
