In a significant policy shift, the Bangladesh Bank has announced the removal of the cash withdrawal limit from banks. Starting tomorrow, Sunday, September 8, account holders will be able to withdraw any amount of cash they wish. Additionally, customers will still be able to transfer any amount of money between accounts and perform digital transactions as before.
The central bank issued this update through a notice on Saturday, September 7, and has provided instructions to all government and private banks accordingly.
Previously, the maximum amount allowed for cash withdrawal was capped at 500,000 taka. In recent weeks, the limit had been gradually increased by 100,000 taka each week.
This move follows the imposition of withdrawal limits on August 5, after the fall of the Awami League government due to public protests. The limits were put in place for security reasons. Since then, the withdrawal limit had been incrementally raised by 100,000 taka each week. Starting from tomorrow, there will be no cap on cash withdrawals.
