In a historic achievement, American entrepreneur and billionaire Jared Isaacman has become the first amateur astronaut to successfully walk in space. As part of SpaceX’s Polaris Dawn mission, Isaacman led the team in conducting the first-ever commercial spacewalk on Thursday, September 12. The milestone was reported by BBC News.
Isaacman, 41, the founder of the electronic payments company Shift4, personally financed the space mission. His team for this groundbreaking journey consisted of four members. The spacewalk began at 6:12 AM New York time (4:12 PM Bangladesh time), as Isaacman and SpaceX engineer Sarah Gillis exited their capsule.
While Isaacman and Gillis ventured outside the capsule, the other two crew members remained inside. During the spacewalk, Isaacman and Gillis were floating approximately 700 kilometers above Earth’s surface.
This isn’t Isaacman’s first collaboration with SpaceX. In 2021, he also financed the Inspiration4 mission, marking another step in the billionaire’s passion for space exploration.
