A Bangladeshi youth named Alamgir Sheikh (35) has been deported from India and had his visa canceled due to posting anti-India content on social media while traveling. The incident was confirmed by Ahsan Habib, the in-charge of immigration police at Burimari Land Port, on Monday (September 16).
Alamgir Sheikh, hailing from Jumma Para, Patgram Municipality in Lalmonirhat, was handed over to Burimari Immigration Police by Indian authorities through the Changrabandha immigration checkpoint on Sunday evening (September 15).
According to immigration police sources, Alamgir entered India on a tourist visa through Burimari Land Port on September 3. While in India, he made several controversial comments and posted live videos on Facebook, which attracted the attention of Indian intelligence agencies. Following an investigation, his visa was canceled, and he was deported through the Changrabandha checkpoint.
Alamgir’s Facebook posts during his visit to the Taj Mahal in Agra included statements like, “In 1971, India helped us a lot but also divided us from Pakistan. Now, the people of Bangladesh want to divide India.” He also expressed support for an independent Manipur and called for the return of West Bengal, Tripura, and Assam to Bangladesh.
Ahsan Habib, the Sub-Inspector in charge of Burimari Land Port Immigration, stated, “The Changrabandha authorities canceled the visa of the Bangladeshi youth and handed him over to us. He was questioned and then released.”
