Nobuyo Oyama, renowned for voicing the beloved character “Doraemon” in the popular Japanese cartoon series, has passed away at the age of 90 due to age-related causes. CNN News reported the heartbreaking news on Friday, October 11.
Oyama lent her iconic voice to Doraemon, the blue robotic cat from the future, from 1979 until 2005. Her portrayal of Doraemon left a lasting impression on countless young fans around the world. Doraemon, a character from the 22nd century, is famous for his “magic pocket,” from which he pulls out various futuristic gadgets. One of the most well-known devices is the “Anywhere Door,” a magical door that allows Doraemon and his friends to travel anywhere instantly.
In addition to Doraemon, the series featured other beloved characters like Nobita, Shizuka, Suneo, and Gian. Even though Oyama retired from the role, her voice became so synonymous with Doraemon that subsequent voice actors closely followed her style to maintain the continuity of the character’s unique charm.
Nobuyo Oyama’s contribution to anime and her role in bringing joy to millions of children worldwide will be remembered for generations.
