Two Bangladeshi workers have tragically died following a chemical factory explosion in Malaysia. The incident, which left three Bangladeshi nationals severely burned, occurred on Thursday, October 10, in the industrial area of Iskandar Puteri, Johor. The victims, identified as Jabbar Ali, son of Razzak Bhuiyan from Munshiganj, and Abu Taher, son of Abul Kashem from the same district, succumbed to their injuries at a local hospital.
Jabbar Ali passed away on Friday evening at around 7 PM, while Abu Taher died early Saturday morning at approximately 3 AM. Their bodies are currently being kept at the hospital morgue, awaiting repatriation. Another injured worker, Salam, who hails from Munshiganj as well, is receiving treatment at the hospital. Salam’s father, Mohiuddin, has been informed of his condition.
A.S.M. Zahidur Rahman, First Secretary of the Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia, confirmed that the High Commission has been in contact with the families of the deceased and has assured them that efforts are being made to expedite the return of the bodies to Bangladesh. He also stated that the High Commission is working with the factory management to secure compensation for the victims and their families.
The explosion occurred at around 11:30 AM on October 10 in the Gelang Patah SILC Industrial Park, where multiple chemical factories are located. The three Bangladeshi workers were severely burned, with 30% of their bodies affected. The factory authorities had rushed them to the hospital before firefighters arrived at the scene.
