Shakib Al Hasan, the former captain of the Bangladesh cricket team, has signed with the Galle Marvels for the upcoming Lanka T10 League, despite his recent unexpected retirement from international T20 cricket. His last appearance for the national team in this format was during the World Cup, which came as a surprise to many fans.
On Wednesday, October 16, the Galle Marvels announced the signing via their official social media accounts. The franchise secured Shakib directly from the platinum category before the draft, indicating their confidence in the all-rounder’s abilities.
The Lanka T10 League, organized by T10 Sports Management, is set to take place in the second week of December, featuring six teams. Apart from the Galle Marvels, the participating teams include Bangla Tigers Hambantota, Colombo Strikers, Kandy Bolts, Jaffna Titans, and Dambulla Jaguars Braves. The tournament will follow a round-robin format in the initial phase, leading to playoffs.
Notably, Shakib will also be playing in the Abu Dhabi T10 League for the Bangla Tigers, which means he will face off against his own franchise from the Abu Dhabi league when the Lanka T10 League commences.
The tournament is scheduled to run from December 12, culminating in the final on December 22. With Shakib’s participation, the league is expected to attract significant attention from cricket fans.
