Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of ousted Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has claimed that the recent student movement in Bangladesh is being controlled by Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir. Joy made this statement in a post on his verified Facebook page on Wednesday night, October 16.
In his post, Joy stated, “We have seen online how the student movement is being controlled by Jamaat-Shibir, and they themselves have even admitted it.” He also pointed out actions aimed at erasing the memory of Bangladesh’s founding father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Furthermore, Joy expressed concern over the current narrative, stating, “Now they are openly denying the contribution of our liberation struggle and Sheikh Mujib’s role in our independence. By doing so, they are reintroducing themselves to the nation as collaborators of the Pakistani occupation forces.”
Joy’s comments come at a time of growing tension surrounding student protests in the country, as debates continue over the motivations and influences behind the movement. The involvement of Jamaat-Shibir has sparked controversy, with many questioning the true objectives of the protests.
