In a tragic incident, two personnel from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) were killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast planted by Maoists in the Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh, India. The explosion occurred in the Abujhmad forest around 12:10 PM on Saturday, October 19, according to a report by India Today.
The deceased personnel have been identified as Amar Panwar (36) from Satara, Maharashtra, and K. Rajesh (36) from Kadapa, Karnataka. Both were part of the ITBP’s 53rd Battalion stationed in the Narayanpur district.
The incident took place near Kodoliar village, where security forces were conducting an anti-Naxal operation. The joint team, consisting of ITBP and District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel, was returning from a patrol when the IED exploded. Four other security personnel, including members of ITBP and DRG, sustained injuries in the blast.
The operation in the Maoist-affected area was part of ongoing efforts to curb insurgent activities. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, and the injured personnel have been evacuated for medical treatment.
