The United States has imposed sanctions on 19 Indian companies and two Indian nationals, accusing them of supporting Russia in its ongoing war with Ukraine. The announcement came on Wednesday, October 30, as reported by The Indian Express. However, the identities of the two individuals remain undisclosed.
Among the sanctioned entities are companies from countries including Russia, China, Turkey, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, the UAE, and Switzerland, along with four companies from India. These entities are accused of providing essential supplies aiding Russia in its military efforts against Ukraine.
According to the U.S. State Department, sanctions have been applied to a total of 120 individuals and entities, with the Treasury Department identifying 270 persons and companies linked to the aid of Russia. The Commerce Department has also listed 40 specific organizations under additional trade restrictions.
One of the Indian companies named in the sanctions is Ascent Aviation India Private Limited, which allegedly supplied military equipment and other goods to Russian-based entities over 700 times between March 2023 and March 2024. These supplies included over $200,000 worth of Common High Priority List (CHPL) items essential for warfare operations.
The United States has intensified its efforts to restrict entities that support Russia, with these latest sanctions marking a significant step in curtailing indirect support for the war in Ukraine.
