Atishi Marlena is set to become the new Chief Minister of Delhi following the resignation of Arvind Kejriwal. The decision was made during a meeting of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), as reported by Hindustan Times on Tuesday (September 17).
Before his resignation, Kejriwal was given the authority by party leaders to choose his successor, and he proposed 43-year-old Atishi for the role.
Atishi has been an influential figure in Kejriwal’s cabinet, handling several key portfolios, including education, public works, electricity, revenue, planning, finance, services, vigilance, water, and public relations.
Atishi was first elected as a legislator in 2020 from the Kalkaji constituency. She was appointed as a minister in March 2023, following the arrest of former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in connection with an excise policy case.
