After overcoming a challenging group stage, the Bangladesh women’s football team is now set to face Bhutan in the semifinals of the SAFF Women’s Championship. Bangladesh, the champion of Group A, will take on Group B runner-up Bhutan in the first semifinal scheduled for Sunday, October 27.
Bhutan secured their spot in the semifinals after an impressive 13-0 victory against the Maldives in their final group-stage match. Throughout the group stage, Bhutan scored a staggering 17 goals across two matches, showcasing their attacking prowess.
In the other semifinal, India will face Nepal, who secured their place by defeating Sri Lanka 6-0 in a must-win match. The victory ensured Nepal’s progress as Group B champion, eliminating Sri Lanka and the Maldives from the tournament.
Bangladesh enters the semifinals as the reigning champion, having dominated Bhutan 8-0 in the semifinals of the previous SAFF edition. Additionally, in two recent meetings in July, Bangladesh defeated Bhutan 5-1 and 4-2, providing further confidence for the upcoming clash.
As the semifinal approaches, the Bangladesh team, led by captain Sabina Khatun, is focused on continuing their impressive form as they aim to defend their title and secure a place in the final.
