In a stunning display of football, the Bangladesh women’s national team overwhelmed Bhutan with a remarkable 7-1 victory in the semi-finals of the SAFF Women’s Championship. The match took place on Sunday, October 27, at Dasarath Stadium in Kathmandu.
Bangladesh took control early, scoring five goals in the first half, while Bhutan managed to net one goal. Tohura Khatun led the charge with a hat-trick, and captain Sabina Khatun contributed with two goals. Rituparna Chakma and Masura Parveen also found the back of the net.
The scoring started in the seventh minute when Rituparna opened the account with a well-placed shot, set up by Tohura. Bangladesh doubled their lead shortly after, with Tohura brilliantly deceiving the Bhutanese goalkeeper, Sangita Mongar, before scoring in the 14th minute.
In the 25th minute, Sabina’s shot hit the side post, but she quickly capitalized on a rebound to score her first goal of the tournament. Tohura showcased her skill again in the 34th minute with a stunning curled shot, making it 4-0. Just two minutes later, Sabina added another, dribbling around the goalkeeper to slot the ball into an empty net.
Despite trailing heavily, Bhutan managed to pull one back through striker Deki Hazm in the 40th minute, ending the half at 5-1 in favor of Bangladesh.
The second half saw Tohura complete her hat-trick in the 57th minute, bringing the score to 6-1. Masura capped off the scoring for Bangladesh with a powerful header from a corner kick in the 72nd minute.
The match concluded with Bangladesh comfortably securing their place in the final, having previously defeated Bhutan 8-0 in the semi-finals of the last SAFF Championship. The team’s dominant performance highlights their readiness for the upcoming final.
