A defamation lawsuit has been filed against Bangladeshi journalist Salahuddin Shoaib Choudhury in India for spreading false news about Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi. The Indian news outlet Hindustan Times reported this on Tuesday.
According to the report, the lawsuit was filed after false news against Rahul and Sonia Gandhi was published and subsequently shared on various social media platforms. The lawsuit also includes the name of an Indian female journalist named ‘Aditi.’
The case was registered at the High Grounds Police Station based on a complaint by G. Srinivas, the legal unit coordinator of the Karnataka State Congress Committee. The complaint states that on August 23, Salahuddin Shoaib Choudhury posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), claiming that although Sonia Gandhi married in India, she remained a Christian and was an agent of the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI.
Additionally, Shoaib Choudhury alleged that Rahul Gandhi met with a top BNP leader in London and accused Rahul of sexually harassing a woman.
Srinivas claimed that this false news was deliberately spread before the Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir assembly elections to tarnish the reputation of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi.
This incident has sparked significant controversy in Indian political circles, and an investigation into the matter is ongoing.
