A case has been filed against former MP of Habiganj-4, Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Sumon, along with 98 others, for allegedly attacking students and protesters. The case, which also includes 70 to 90 unidentified individuals as defendants, was filed following a protest-related incident.
Chunarughat Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Hillol Roy, confirmed the filing of the case on Wednesday (September 11). The case was lodged by Nasir Uddin, convener of the Chunarughat Upazila Jubo Dal, on Tuesday night (September 10).
According to the complaint, on July 16, a large crowd of students and locals gathered in Shaistaganj New Bridge area for a protest. The lawsuit claims that, under the direction of Barrister Sumon, the accused individuals attacked the protesters by throwing bricks and stones. Additionally, they reportedly used local weapons, injuring several people from various professions.
Among the accused are Chunarughat Municipal Mayor Saiful Alam Rubel, six Union Parishad chairmen, including Zakir Hossain Palash, Ruman Farazi, Manik Sarkar, Mostafizur Rahman Ripon, Wahed Ali, and Abdalur Rahman. The President of Chunarughat Upazila Awami League, Akbar Hossain Jitu, and General Secretary Anwar Ali have also been named as accused in the case.
