Simon Siu, who grew up in the heart of Macau near the prestigious Hotel Central, has come full circle by purchasing the very hotel that once humiliated him. In the 1960s, young Siu wandered into the hotel, captivated by its grandeur. However, hotel staff swiftly ushered him out, leaving a lasting mark on him.
Reflecting on this moment in an interview with CNN, Siu said, “I didn’t understand much back then, but I looked up at that hotel and vowed I’d own it one day.”
Now 65, Siu has transformed that childhood ambition into reality. The prominent businessman founded his real estate company, Lake Hang Group, in 1991 and recently acquired the 96-year-old Hotel Central. Known for its rich history since opening in 1928, Hotel Central has hosted celebrities, diplomats, and conferences, making it a symbol of prestige in Macau.
Beyond settling a personal score, Siu’s acquisition of Hotel Central reflects his dedication to preserving Macau’s legacy. “It wasn’t just about fulfilling a personal desire,” Siu stated, “I wanted to help conserve Macau’s rich history.”
Today, Simon Siu stands as a testament to resilience and determination, turning a childhood slight into a celebrated achievement.
