A fun, quirky tradition in Cincinnati, Ohio, is stirring excitement ahead of the U.S. Presidential Election. Known as the “Cookie Poll,” this unusual survey has drawn national attention. For over 40 years, the family-owned Busken Bakery has held its own unique polling system by selling cookies decorated with the caricatures of the top two presidential candidates. Remarkably, in nine out of the last ten elections, the candidate whose cookie outsold the other went on to win the presidency.
This year, Busken Bakery has baked up two cookie options featuring cartoon portraits of Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. As of November 1, a whopping 30,943 Trump cookies have been sold, compared to 11,960 Harris cookies.
CEO Dan Busken said, “Our Cookie Poll has become a nationwide phenomenon on Facebook and Twitter, and we’re seeing more faith in its results than ever.” Despite their solid track record, the bakery’s 2020 prediction was proven wrong when Joe Biden won the election despite more sales of Trump cookies.
Shoppers eagerly buy their favorite candidate’s cookies to show support. “I always buy Trump cookies,” shared one customer. “Not just for my family but for friends and relatives too.”
While the “Cookie Poll” currently indicates a clear lead for Trump, mainstream media polls suggest a much tighter race. As November 5 approaches, all eyes are on Busken Bakery’s final cookie tally to see if the “cookie poll” can reclaim its predictive streak.
