Dhaka, September 4, 2024 — Deputy Attorney General Sujit Chatterjee Bappi has resigned amid protests. He was reappointed as Deputy Attorney General on August 28 for the second time. Previously, he had served in the same position during the Sheikh Hasina government.
After the government’s downfall, most of the legal officers, including the Attorney General, resigned, but Sujit Chatterjee and a few others continued to perform their duties.
In light of the changing situation, on August 28, the interim government annulled the previous appointments and appointed 66 new Deputy Attorneys General and 161 Assistant Attorneys General. Sujit Chatterjee Bappi was among those newly appointed.
However, following his reappointment, a section of lawyers began protesting, demanding the cancellation of the appointments of Sujit Chatterjee Bappi and 14 other legal officers. Faced with this pressure, Sujit Chatterjee Bappi was ultimately compelled to resign.
