Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, National Security Advisor, has announced that a significant recruitment drive will soon be launched for the Police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and Ansar forces. This announcement comes as part of an effort to fill positions left vacant by personnel who have not returned to duty. The recruitment for constable positions has already been announced, and notifications for Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment are expected within the next day or two.
The advisor made these remarks on Tuesday, October 1, during a press briefing after a meeting of the Law and Order Advisory Committee held at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
“Work on police reforms is underway, and a committee has been formed to address this. The committee will submit a report, and actions will be taken based on their recommendations. Those who have failed to return to duty are no longer part of the police force; they are now considered offenders,” Chowdhury stated.
Speaking about security measures for the upcoming Durga Puja, Chowdhury assured that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure a peaceful celebration. “I am hopeful that this year’s Puja will be smoother and more successful than in previous years. We need everyone’s cooperation to make this happen,” he said, adding that the overall law and order situation is improving and is expected to continue doing so.
When asked about the demand for a three-day public holiday during Durga Puja, Chowdhury clarified that there had been no discussions on the matter. “This issue does not fall under my purview, and I have never commented on it,” he concluded.
