Despite persistent rumors over several seasons, Dani Olmo had not managed to return to his former club, Barcelona. Now, this key player from Spain’s Euro Championship-winning team is set to head back to Catalonia. Barcelona has already reached a verbal agreement with his current club, RB Leipzig, confirmed by the renowned Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo reports that Olmo’s transfer to Barcelona is nearly finalized. According to the initial agreement, Olmo will play for Barcelona until 2030. The report states that Barcelona will spend 47 million euros on his transfer, with additional bonuses based on winning titles and playing 60% of the matches.
Fabrizio Romano mentioned that Barcelona’s director Deco completed a verbal agreement for Olmo’s transfer during a mission to Leipzig. The deal includes a 55 million euro package, with an additional 7 million euros in bonuses. This contract with Olmo will last six years, until June 2030, and he is ready to join Barcelona.
Barcelona’s sporting director met with Olmo, his father, and the footballer’s agents Juanma Lopez and Andy Bara in Germany to discuss the transfer. If finalized, Olmo will be returning to Camp Nou after ten years.
The 26-year-old Spanish star spent his childhood at Barcelona’s football academy, La Masia, but never played for the club’s senior team. He later joined the Croatian club Dinamo Zagreb and signed with the German club Leipzig in 2020.
Despite being injured for much of the 2023-24 season, Olmo contributed to 13 goals in 25 matches across all competitions. His performance in the 2024 European Championship was impressive, as he scored in all three knockout matches, helping Spain win the title.
Once the formalities are completed, Olmo will join Hansi Flick’s Barcelona squad. He is expected to make his debut for Barcelona in the season opener against Valencia on August 17.
