Omar bin Laden, the son of the late al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, has been ordered to leave France due to a comment he made about terrorism on social media, France’s Ministry of the Interior announced on Tuesday, October 10th, according to Reuters.
Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau stated that an order has been signed to ban Omar bin Laden from returning to France. The government will ensure that he is permanently barred from re-entering the country. However, the minister did not disclose the specific details of where or when Omar was exiled.
Omar bin Laden, who had been living in the Orne region of France for several years as the husband of a British citizen, reportedly posted content on social media in 2023 that supported terrorism.
Omar married a British woman 20 years his senior in 2006. After their marriage, she converted to Islam and took the name Zaina Mohammed. Omar sought residency in the UK, but his application was rejected. Spain also denied his residency request. During his time in France, he had reportedly taken up painting as a profession.
Osama bin Laden, Omar’s father, was killed in a 2011 operation by U.S. special forces in Pakistan.
