Six foreign nationals have been arrested in Venezuela over an alleged plot to assassinate President Nicolás Maduro. The British news outlet The Guardian reported the arrests on Sunday (September 15).
Among the arrested individuals, three are American, two are Spanish, and one is a Czech national. Venezuela’s Interior Minister shared this information on state television on Saturday.
The minister accused the detainees of being part of a conspiracy led by the U.S. intelligence agency CIA, aimed at assassinating President Maduro and other top Venezuelan government officials.
However, the U.S. State Department has rejected these accusations, denying any involvement by the CIA in the alleged assassination plot against Nicolás Maduro.
It’s worth noting that Western nations have previously accused Maduro of election fraud during Venezuela’s most recent elections. Just two days ago, the U.S. imposed sanctions on 16 of the president’s close associates.
