Looking back, the images that come to mind are of countless precious lives lost too soon. We remember them with deep respect. However, it’s also crucial to assess what needs to be done now. This assessment has immediate, short-term, medium-term, and long-term perspectives.
Immediately, the interim government needs to start functioning, despite some constitutional complexities. The process must be legitimized later to avoid future disputes. The second priority is restoring the collapsed law enforcement structure, which has been deeply politicized and faces public anger.
Third, legal and social measures must be taken against all forms of violence, particularly the destruction of state property and attacks on minorities. The joint efforts of students and the public to protect minority communities must be strengthened. Fourth, we must preserve historical symbols like museums, artworks, and monuments, as destroying them harms our national identity.
Fifth, the interim government’s immediate task is to conduct impartial investigations into recent killings, ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice without delay.
In the short term, a democratic and inclusive dialogue must be established, involving various social groups, such as women, youth, ethnic minorities, and marginalized communities.
